CAIMS*SCMAI Research Prize

The society's preeminent research award recognizes innovative and exceptional research contributions in applied or industrial mathematics.

This prize was established in 2003. The award will consist of a prize of $1,000 and a commemorative plaque that will be presented at the CAIMS*SCMAI Annual Meeting. The recipient will be invited to give a plenary lecture at the Annual Meeting in the year of the award. A travel allowance will be provided.

CAIMS-Fields Industrial Mathematics Prize

The CAIMS-Fields annual industrial mathematics prize is to be awarded to a researcher in recognition of exceptional research in any branch of industrial mathematics, interpreted broadly. The nominee's research should have been conducted primarily in Canada. This Prize would not only be a high honour to bestow upon an individual, but also an acknowledgement of industrial mathematics as a fundamental and vibrant discipline within the research culture of Canada.

Arthur Beaumont Distinguished Service Award

The Arthur Beaumont Distinguished Service Award honours members of CAIMS/SCMAI for outstanding service to the society or to Applied Mathematics in Canada. The award is named after its first recipient, and was initiated as a means to honour Arthur for his years of unselfish service to the society. Arthur was a founding member of CAIMS/SCMAI and acted as its Secretary/Treasurer for eight years.

The award will consist of a commemorative plaque that will be presented at the CAIMS*SCMAI Annual Meeting. A travel allowance will be provided.

2013 CAIMS*SCMAI Cecil Graham Doctoral Dissertation Award

CAIMS*SCMAI is happy to announce that the recipient of the 2013 CAIMS*SCMAI Cecil Graham Doctoral Dissertation Award is Dr Frances Mackay of the University of Western Ontario. Her thesis titled: "Hybrid lattice Boltzmann - molecular dynamics simulations with both simple and complex fluids", was completed under the supervision of Professor Colin Denniston in the Department of Applied Mathematics at Western. The dissertation addresses the problem of modelling colloidal structures in complex fluids and, in particular, liquid crystals.

2014 CAIMS/PIMS Early Career Award in Applied Mathematics

CAIMS and PIMS are pleased to announce that Prof. Geoff Wild of the University of Western Ontario has been awarded the 2014 CAIMS/PIMS Early Career Award in Applied Mathematics. Prof. Wild obtained his PhD in 2004 from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Queen's University. Since 2004 he has held post-doctoral positions at both Queen's University and the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Wild joined the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Western Ontario in 2008 as an Assistant Professor.
