The Canadian Applied and Industrial
Mathematics Society •
Société Canadienne de
Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (CAIMS*SCMAI),
which dates from 1979, has a growing presence in industrial,
mathematical,
scientific and technological circles within and outside of Canada. Its
annual meetings are a
destination of choice: the most recent meeting was the CAIMS 2008 Annual Meeting, which was held
jointly with other organizations as part of the Second Canada-France Congress, took place
at the Université du Quebec, Montreal, June 1-6, 2008.
The Society features a Doctoral Dissertation Award programme and sponsors the Nerenberg Lecture Series at the University of Western Ontario. The Society's Arthur Beaumont Distiguished Service Award was established in 1987, most recently awarded to Prof. Jack Macki of University of Alberta. The Society established a Research Prize in 2003, also awarded at the Annual Meeting. The 2007 winner was Prof. Gordon E. Swaters of University of Alberta. In addition, CAIMS*SCMAI is a member society of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, which hosts the prestigious ICIAM Congresses every four years: the sixth of these is to be held in Zurich, Switzerland, July 16-20, 2007. Advantages of membership in the Society include free subscription to the Newsletter and Membership Directory, subscription to the Canadian Applied Mathematics Quarterly at a discounted rate, registration for the CAIMS*SCMAI Annual Meeting at reduced rates, and affiliated membership in Gesellschaft fur Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik (GAMM) at two-thirds the current subscription rate. The normal annual membership fee is $50.00 for our Society.
